What’s up everybody? Time has definitely flew by at a fast pace. Playoff basketball is in full effect and its very interesting both here in Europe and in the United States. The month of May has been really good to me and I’m hoping it ends better than it has begun.
My team (Asvel) finished the regular season in 3rd place and we are now preparing for the 2nd round of the playoffs (semi-finals). It is my second season as a professional basketball player and I’m playing in the playoffs! It’s a major accomplishment and I’m excited that the season is still going. The ultimate goal is to win the championship and play into the month of June. I’m looking forward to playing John Shurna and his team in the semi-finals. Shurna is a great player and a great friend of mine and playing against each other is something we both look forward to. As of now I have a 1-0 lead on team games against him.
The NBA playoffs are underway and it’s sad to see the injuries that players are dealing with. My heart goes out to those players and I wish them a speedy recovery. I had the Miami Heat beating the Oklahoma City Thunder in 5 games in the finals, but that prediction was wrong as the Thunder are now eliminated. I still predict that the Heat will win the finals regardless of who they play.
I would be remiss if I didn’t announce the birth of my son Michael Jovan Thompson Jr. He was born May 17th at 11:34 pm (4:34 pm USA). Weighing in at 7 lbs and 19 inches. It was a bittersweet feeling to hold him in my arms for the first time. That night I don’t think I slept a wink. During my sons labor and while holding him I didn’t realize how surreal the situation was or its worth, but now as I reflect on that night I feel very blissful. Michael Jr. is healthy and will be in attendance next Thursday to cheer on Asvel. I look forward to playing in front of him for the first time.
I would like to give a special thanks to the Asvel staff, fans, teammates and their families for supporting Shantel and I throughout the pregnancy and giving Michael Jr. such a warm welcoming into the world!
Until next time,
